Plantar Warts

Plantar warts are small, grainy growths that appear on the heels or other weight-bearing areas of the feet. They are caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV) and can be both unsightly and painful, especially when located on pressure points.

Key Features of Plantar Warts

  • Appearance: Plantar warts often have a rough, grainy texture and may contain small black dots (clotted blood vessels). They can appear as a single wart or in clusters known as mosaic warts.

  • Location of Warts: These warts typically develop on the soles of the feet, especially on the heels or balls of the feet.

  • Pain Characteristics: Walking or standing can be painful when warts are located on pressure points. The pain is often described as feeling like having a pebble in the shoe.
